IRS 2005 R1 numbers are here and in publications that have reasons to celebrate, Dainik Jagran is right on top. A look at the top twenty publications shows that while players like Malayala Manorama have dropped places due to readership dip, print giant Times of India too shows a fall this round. Sheer readership growth puts Jagran again on top where the publication registers the highest growth.
Top twenty
Dainik Jagran takes the numero uno slot. The publication has grown from 16,403,000 to 17,474,000 growing by 10,71,000. The next to follow is Dainik Bhaskar, which too registers a growth of 388000 giving the publication a readership of 13810000 from 13422000. Daily Thanthi climbs to the third spot this round. The publication moves from 91,48,000 to 93,86,000. Amar Ujala too sees a rise coming on the fourth spot. With a readership growth of 4,25,000, the paper now has a readership of 92,76,000 in comparison to 2003 R2's 88,51,000. Malayala Manorama takes the fifth slot. This round takes the publication's readership down by 3,45,000, bringing its readership to 88,62,000 from the 92,07,000 figure it had prior to this.
Eenadu and Lokmat take the sixth and seventh position respectively. While Eenadu has grown by 1,61,000 (82,72,000 from 81,11,000), Lokmat has grown by a figure of 9,39,000 (82,23,000 from 72,84,000) elevating the publication position in the top players. The eighth slot is taken by Hindustan. From a 79,40,000, it has moved to 81,95,000, increasing by 2,55,000. Mathrubhumi and Saras Salil claim the ninth and tenth spot respectively. Mathrubhumi has registered a growth of 2,51,000 giving the publication a readership of 76,16,000. Saras Salil on other hand registers a drop, bringing the publication down to 70,84,000 from 72,75,000.
The Times of India (70,51,000) takes the 11th position followed by Vijay Karnataka (60,98,000), Rajsathan Parika (59,96,000), Gujarat Samachar (58,92,000) and Sakal (58,56,000). All publications here have shown increase except The Times of India. The publication has seen a loss of readership by a figure of 47,000.
Ananda Bazar Patrika (55,09,000) takes slot 16. Punjab Kesari (46,73,000) is at 17 and Dinamalar (46,67,000) is at 18. Vanitha (Mal) claims the 19th position (42,67,000) and Vaartha is on the 20th position with a 41,42,000 readership. May be not such good news for this one, as it has registered a dip of 2,56,000 copies.
Readership growth
Looking at sheer readership growth now, Jagran again takes the top slot where the publication registers the highest growth of 10,71,000. The next to follow here is Punya Nagari with a growth of 10,70,000. However, the base of the publication is a modest one and this growth gives it a readership of 34,04,000 now.
Both Marathi players Lokmat and Sakal have both registered good growth too keeping them at the third and fourth slot, as far as readership growth is concerned. Where Lokmat has grown by 9,39,000, Sakal has grown by 9,22,000. Divya Bhaskar follows in the fifth slot here. Registering a growth of 9,19,000, the Gujarati publication now has a readership of 31,34,000.
With a readership growth of 7,11,000, Balarama (32,38,000 from 25,27,000) is on the sixth slot. Mathrubhumi Arogya and Tarun Bharat Belgaun have recorded the seventh and eighth highest growth. While the former is now delivering a readership of 15,72,000, the latter is giving 13,88,000. The growth that each has seen is 5,53,000 and 5,29,000. Andhra Jyothi and Vanith (Mal) with readership growths of 5,07,000 and 4,96,000 respectively are on the ninth and 10th positions.
