IRS 2005 R1: Hindi print see dailies grow and periodicals fall in the top players

As far as the Hindi publications are concerned, the top four players are dailies. What proves to be encouraging further for the dailies is the fact that all the four top dailies, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Ujala and Hindustan have also recorded a further increase in readership. Where Dainik Jagran has grown by a 10,71,000, Bhaskar has grown by 3,88,000, Amar Ujala by 4,25,000 and Hindustan is up by 2,55,000.

However, the fortnightly Saras Salil, the occupant of the fifth slot in Hindi publications has seen a fall of 191000 bringing the publication down to 7084 from 7275. The dailies Rajasthan Patrika and Punjab Kesari, which take the sixth and seventh slot, too have seen an increase in readership. Rajasthan Patrika has grown from a 59,12,000 to a 59,96,000 seeing an increase of 84,000 and Punjab Kesari has grown from 42,61,000 to 46,73,000.

Come the eighth slot and we see a fall in readership again. The weekly Indian Today takes this slot and the dip is of 4,08,000. Griha Shobha and Pratiyogita Darpan on the ninth and 10th slots have seen a dip in their readership too. The monthly Griha Shobha has gone down from 36,80,000 to 33,70,000 and Pratiyogita Darpan, which too is a monthly magazine falls from 30,03,000 to 28,25,000.
