Readership of most newspapers falls across country, finds Indian Readership Survey

Readership of most newspapers across the country has declined compared to last year's figures, according to the latest data (round 2) of the Indian Readership Survey 2008. The survey, conducted by the Media Research Users Council (MRUC), was released Tuesday in Mumbai. The Times of India still leads English dailies with a total readership of 133.4 lakh, dropping from 134.8 lakh readers last year. As meltdown continues, US newspapers report sharper declines in circulation figures

Circulation figures of daily newspapers in the US have dropped again. The country's Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), citing preliminary figures, said on Monday that the circulation for 507 daily newspapers fell 4.64 per cent in the six months ending September to 38.16 million copies from 40.02 million in the same period last year. Yahoo News is still the preferred online news source among Indian Internet users

At least eight of ten users checking news online in India are males. Almost eight of ten engaging in such activity fall in the 19-35 age bracket. These and other key insights have emerged out of one of the largest surveys conducted by JuxtConsult earlier this year among Internet users in India. The habit of checking news online is indulged in by 63 per cent of online users.
