Four in five consumers prefer print over online: UK study

Print has a place in the world of new media, as most people still prefer to read offline, says a new KPMG survey. The auditor is running six monthly surveys on media in general, Media and Entertainment Barometer surveys, carried out by YouGov, this is the third such survey, says a PrintWeek report. According to the latest survey, which spoke to 2,241 people, 86 per cent of consumers prefer to consume media offline, with the most popular reason a preference for reading physical copies. The... Fox News viewers prone to misinformation, 63% don't know if Obama was born in the US

Fox News viewers are much more misinformed than consumers of news from other sources. A recent study also shows that greater exposure to Fox News increases misinformation. The findings are from a survey by World Public Opinion, a project managed by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland. iPad news apps may hit US newspaper print subscriptions in 2011

Apple's iPad is killing print newspaper subscriptions, according to a new survey by the Donald W Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri. However, its data also suggests the iPad is becoming a new channel for people's daily news, offering hope that at least some of the iPad-exclusive publications in the pipeline can succeed. French government report calls for cuts in state aid to the press

France's newspapers are kept in a state of "permanent artificial respiration" by the annual billion euros in state aid they get and badly need to shake themselves up to survive, a report said Thursday. The government-commissioned report lamented that the massive subsidies had failed to create the "emergence or the presence of political and general press titles that were strong and not dependent on public aid."
